Love the new stuff!
I’ve read through your entire blog in one sitting! It is extremely helpful to someone like me who is just getting started. You are the best for sharing!
I am wondering if you would be interested in dedicating a blog post to sharing with us what equipment, down to the smallest device, that you have in your workshop. I’d like to start setting up a workshop at my house but I have no clue where to start.
That would be an interesting blog post for me to do! I will definitely keep that in mind, it would probably take a while to photograph everything…
Here is a link to the forums on etsy, where someone has outlined the basic tools needed for soldering: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=39509
Also, the most recent issue of Art Jewelry has a great pull out section with all of the different tools needed in different techniques.
Thanks for reading my blog!
I’ll check out the link and try to pick up the magazine.
I have two other questions for you –
do you use any kind of sealer on your copper jewelry?
where do you buy your reclaimed metal? I want to order some metal and i read that you found a place that sells reclaimed silver. When I mentioned reclaimed silver to the people in my metalsmithing class they looked at me like I have five heads. haha. I would like to share the place with them as well.
Actually Rio Grande’s silver is reclaimed from already existing metal supplies, but I have found a company that is usually cheaper than Rio and also has reclaimed metal and that is Thunderbird Supply Co. They run sales once in a while that give you a price break like if you were buying 500oz! You can sign up for their mailing list and be notified of the sales. Here is there website: http://www.thunderbirdsupply.com You don’t have to have a special account or anything like that, all of their prices are automatically wholesale and their web page is easy to navigate.
Silver is really inexpensive right now, get it while it’s cheap!
I guess I did not answer you completely! I don’t use any sealer on my copper pieces. I like them to get a lovely air patina over time, but you can always polish them with a silver polishing cloth. I like the sunshine brand. Some people use spray coating, but I do not like to have that against my skin.
