I would stamp the metal back plate before soldering the bezel to it.  You can purchase stamping/dapping tools from many jewelry supply stores.  You can also make your own from a large steel nail sanded to a line shape with a belt sander, or a pieces of mild or tool steel.  Or you could use a large flat head screw driver as a stamp.

I made my own stamping tools in a blacksmithing class, maybe I will photograph them and show some pictures in the future.
